TSUNAMI ENTERTAINMENT’S ‘WRONG NUMBER’ Wraps Principal Photography
Toronto, CANADA/October 19,2000 – TSUNAMI ENTERTAINMENT, Ken Nakamura and Mark Burman’s independent motion picture production/distribution company, and Eagle Pictures announced today the completion of principal photography for “WRONG NUMBER,” a $5 million independent thriller starring Eric Roberts, Brigitte Bako, David Lipper and Kane Picoy. The Rashomon-style tale of greed and murder is set in the tumultuous world of the Internet stock market.
Shot in Canada, “WRONG NUMBER” is Tsunami’s second feature film since the edgy, yet commercial, independent production/distribution company launched in 1999. Its first feature, “The Spreading Ground,” starring Dennis Hopper received top nods at the Houston Film Festival and is currently touring the festival circuit.
“WRONG NUMBER” was produced by Ken Nakamura and Tim Riley with Executive Producers Mark Burman, Ciro Dammicco and Stephen Maynard. Written and directed by Richard Middleton, the “Body Heat”-esque tale is based on a story by Lorna Lambert.
The picture was co-financed by Tsunami Entertainment and Italy’s mega-distributor, Eagle Pictures. It is the first of a slate of thrillers the two companies plan to bow next year. Domestic distribution for “WRONG NUMBER” is available through Tsunami with the co-financiers handling international sales jointly.
Tsunami Entertainment was founded in 1999 Ken Nakamura and Mark Burman. The company has since expanded with separate feature film and straight-to-video divisions at its corporate headquarters in Toronto and a satellite office in Beverly Hills. The Indie also runs foreign sales and financing in-house, and O&Os a Toronto-based post-production facility. Tsunami is readying its 2001 production slate, to be announced in early January.
