ABC GETS READY TO GET DOWN AND FUNKY WITH AN ALL-OUT DISCO PARTY TO HONOR THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE GENRE, ON “THE DISCO BALL...A 30-YEAR CELEBRATION,” TO AIR LATER THIS SEASON ON ABC

This Special Will Benefit AIDS Project Los Angeles

All-Star Event to Feature Performances by THE VILLAGE PEOPLE, WHOOPI GOLDBERG, KC & THE SUNSHINE BAND, GLORIA GAYNOR, AARON CARTER, MAYA, THELMA HOUSTON and ANASTASIA

(Sept. 16) Dust off the platform shoes and send the leisure suit to the cleaners, because ABC is getting ready to throw an all-star party celebrating that phenomenon called disco, in the two-hour special, “The Disco Ball...A 30-Year Celebration,” to air later this season on the Network.

This once in a lifetime musical event is set to shoot on Sunday, October 13, at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles -- and this ain’t your father’s Shrine. The venerable venue will be transformed into Club Shrine, the hottest nightspot in the country, featuring two discos built on platforms over two-thirds of the auditorium’s downstairs seats, five performance areas, go-go stages and balcony seating for an additional 3,500 people. And since the “Disco Ball” is NOT an awards show, the music will absolutely NEVER STOP.

Legendary performers of the disco era, as well as some of today’s biggest stars, will jump onto multiple stages and perform the classics that defined the disco era, including “Disco Inferno,” “I Will Survive,” “YMCA,” “It’s Raining Men,” “Stayin’ Alive,” “Turn the Beat Around,” “Hot Stuff,” “Macho Man,” “You Should Be Dancing,” “Get Down Tonight” “and “Last Dance.” The Village People, KC & The Sunshine Band, Gloria Gaynor, The Pointer Sisters, Irene Cara, Rick James, Thelma Houston, The Trammps, The Spinners, Nicki French, Anastasia, Maya, Whoopi Goldberg, Westlife, Aaron Carter and Carmen Electra are among the artists set to perform.

Tickets range from $100 to $25 and are available at ticketmaster.com. Tickets go on sale Monday, September 16. For more information, go to disco-ball.org

100% of all ticket receipts will benefit AIDS Project Los Angeles, one of the nation’s largest service organizations, providing direct services to more than 10,000 men, women and children living with HIV and AIDS in L.A. County.

The special will be executive-produced by John Hamlin and directed and co-executive-produced by Jeff Margolis. Tisha Fein and Greg Sills will serve as producers; Kenny Ortega, Mick McCullough and Gloria Fujita O’Brien are supervising producers. The head writer is Bruce Vilanch. “The Disco Ball...A 30-Year Celebration” is from Jeff Margolis Productions.
